This section discusses some of the tools and techniques that can help companies move toward sustainable consumption and production. In some way, each of the tools and techniques described is intended to help achieve one of two goals: dematerialization or consumption optimization. Dematerialization focuses on functionality, rather than just product design, to address customers’ needs. In order to make its consumption and/or production patterns more sustainable, a company can seek to make improvements in three areas: processes, products and services, and systems.
